Metal Shear Blades and Guillotine Shear Blades: Steel, Hardness and Blade Life
Metal shear blade guide: Cr12MoV/DC53/H13 steels, HRC 53-70, 9000-15000 ton blade life, custom lengths to 5000 mm for guillotine shears and cut-to-length lines.
Where Shear Blades Earn Their Keep
Metal shear blades and guillotine shear knives do the heavy cutting on guillotine shears, flying shears and cut-to-length lines — shearing stainless steel plate, silicon steel, galvanized sheet, cold-rolled and hot-rolled plate and copper plate in all thicknesses. Because crosscut machines shear constantly, blade quality decides how often the line stops for a knife change, and clearance setup matters as much as the blade itself when plate thickness varies.

Steels for Different Plate Thicknesses
Typical shear blade materials are 6CrW2Si, Cr12MoV, SKD-11, H13, DC53 and W6Mo5Cr4V2, with tungsten carbide available for special cases. For buyers who cut a wide thickness range without wanting to swap knives, high-toughness alloy grades can shear 5–16 mm and 10–20 mm plate on the same set, combining flexibility with abrasion resistance at HRC 53–70.
Blade Life and Edge Quality
• Single-blade shearing capacity of 9,000–15,000 tons on conventional material before regrind.
• Surface roughness Ra 0.1 µm and straightness 0.02 mm for a clean cut face.
• Multiple-temper heat treatment prevents edge cracking during long shearing runs.
• 100% inspection of every piece — hole spacing tolerances must match the machine assembly.

Custom Lengths up to 5000 mm
Guillotine and alligator shear blades are produced to drawing in lengths up to 5000 mm, with hardness options from HRC 53 to 70 matched to the material being cut — from 0.1 mm foil to 32 mm plate. Cut-to-length and guillotine machine builders commonly served include TCSF, GEORG, Butech Bliss, CAMU, SHNAGLI, LVD, Salvagnini, Trumpf, Adira and Ursviken.
