Corrugated Cardboard Cutting Solutions: From Corrugator to Converter

An overview of corrugated cutting tools: slitter blades, slotter knives, perforators and board cutters across the corrugator and converting process.

Corrugated production cuts board at least four times before it becomes a box: slitting on the corrugator, cutoff, slotting and trimming at the printer-slotter. Each station needs its own blade geometry and steel.

On the Corrugator

Slitter blades score and slit the web before the cutoff knife chops sheets to length. Cutoff knives see the highest speed and benefit from harder grades or carbide tips. Our cardboard slitter blades article covers this station in depth.

At the Printer-Slotter

Slotter knives — supplied as male and female pairs — cut flaps and slots in one pass. Toothed male blades with matching female dies give clean flap edges at high speeds. Perforator wheels add tear lines for easy-open packs.

Choosing Between Steel Grades

Alloy steels such as 9CrSi handle standard runs, HSS extends life on abrasive recycled board, and carbide suits long campaigns on high-speed machines. Match the grade to your board mix rather than buying one grade for everything.
For paired slotting tools see our male and female slotter blades guide.
