Standard round and straight knives cover most cutting tasks, but packaging machinery, food portioning lines and recycling plants all eventually need a profile that nobody stocks. That is where special shaped blades earn their place.
When a Custom Profile Is Worth It
Consider a shaped blade when the cut itself defines the product: zigzag edges on bags, notched seals, curved portion cuts in food, or toothed profiles for film tearing. A correctly ground profile often removes a secondary trimming operation and pays back quickly.
From Drawing or Sample to Finished Knife
zhongjian produces shaped blades two ways. From a drawing: send DXF, PDF or a dimensioned sketch and we confirm material, hardness and tolerances before cutting. From a sample: worn blades are measured on a profile projector, redrawn in CAD, and the customer approves the layout before steel is cut.
• Materials — D2, SKD-11, HSS M2, carbide and stainless grades for washdown areas
• Heat treatment — vacuum furnaces with hardness from HRC 48 to 64 depending on the application
• Finishing — surface grinding, CNC profile grinding and edge polishing
Tolerances That Matter
For shaped knives the critical tolerances are profile accuracy (typically ±0.05 mm), flatness for knives that sit against a counter blade, and concentricity when the profile rotates. Specifying tighter than needed only increases cost, so tell us the function of each feature and we will advise where tolerance is worth money.
